Let me start by saying that for a simple backyard wedding I was blown away! Mike and Terry are fortunate enough to live lakeside, with a good amount of property leading up to a lake on two sides of their house, which made the perfect setting for an early Fall afternoon wedding. The temperature was a little warm to start, but cooled down to perfectly comfortable by the end of the night.
It was all about family and close friends on this night. I was able to get a ton of great family shots before the ceremony began. The atmosphere was very relaxed, down to the attire worn by the groom and groomsmen. In tasteful country fashion, they sported blue jeans, white shirt, and leather suspenders. The groom also wore a blue tie and a white vest. The bridesmaids looked amazing in their blue dresses and they carried bouquets that were adorned with their names.
The ceremony kicked off in a very unique fashion. Mike and his daughters paddled across the lake in a canoe as live music was performed. After the bridesmaids and ring-bearer made their way one-by-one down the aisle, it was time for the moment everyone had been waiting for. The bride was escorted down the aisle by her two sons. It was a heart-warming moment. The officiant proceeded with the ceremony, up until Mike and Terry read their hand-written vows to each other. They had a demonstrated their joining together by pouring two containers of sand into one, exchanged rings, and were pronounced husband and wife!
There were so many unique things happening on Mike and Terry’s wedding day. After the ceremony, everyone selected a skipping stone from outside the reception tent. In unison, they all made a wish and skipped their stones across the lake. There were a few more group photos before the reception. The reception began at sunset in a giant tent constructed next to the lake. The wedding party and family were announced by the DJ and everyone was able to enjoy a tasty dinner. There were a few speeches, and Mike’s father presented the newlyweds with a family heirloom, which was a large bell. The bell became a source of entertainment; with every ring Mike and Terry had to kiss each other. There was then dancing for the remainder of the evening!
This was such an enjoyable wedding to photograph! There were so many lovely details and joyful people celebrating. I want to give a huge thank you to Mike and Terry for letting me shoot their special day!
